-Chroma Key Extraction in PicturesToExe is presently limited to video chroma key and can’t as yet be used with still images such as PNG files. To understand this process, a bit of background may be helpful. When motion pictures or video subjects are filmed in front of a solid color backdrop of a color which doesn't appear in the subject itself, it is possible to extract that solid color leaving alpha channel transparency in its place. By doing this, it’s then possible to overlay that video having the transparent alpha channel over any still or video backdrop and the subject then appears to be in a totally different location. This feature is frequently used by both the motion picture industry as well as the television industry. For example, by filming a newscaster against a properly and uniformly lit solid green backdrop, the newscaster can then be overlaid against video footage taken elsewhere. A news crew sitting in a studio in New York at a table can be made to appear to be sitting at a Paris, France bistro on the Champs Elysees by simply overlaying the green screen footage over stock footage taken in Paris. People walking by, traffic on the street, sounds and sights of Paris then appear to be directly behind our actors in New York.
-How then can this be accomplished with PicturesToExe and how would one proceed to get green screen footage to work with? The user may want to use their own video camera and lights with a simple solid green backdrop. Tutorials on this will be available from some of our PicturesToExe users. Also green screen stock footage can be purchased online at various places.

-Left click and hold down the left mouse button and drag this “eye dropper” icon down into the green background. Notice that after doing this, the zero in the numeric block to the right will change to a number. This number will depend on the actual hue of the green backdrop, but will generally be about 5.0. Release the left mouse button, click on the small down arrow beside the number and a slider as seen below will appear. Look carefully around the subject to see if there is a slight green outline.

Si rilascia il pulsante sinistro del mouse, si fa clic sulla piccola freccia rivolta in basso a lato del numero e verrà visualizzato un cursore come mostrato nell'illustrazione seguente. Osservare accuratamente intorno al soggetto per vedere se c'è un leggero contorno verde.
-If an outline is seen, left click and hold down the mouse button on the slider handle and slowly drag it to the right while carefully observing the green “halo” around the subject. As the slider is pulled to the right, the halo will gradually disappear. If the slider is dragged too far, the subject will also begin to disappear. Carefully adjust the slider for optimal subject opacity with minimal halo, in this case 17.90 and the result will be something similar to what is seen below:

-A word of caution to the user. This is not a perfect way to overlay a green screen extract. Entire software packages have been written expressly for this purpose and it is only a convenience with PicturesToExe. Do not expect perfection. The feature is available in PicturesToExe but it is not a super sophisticated extraction process. If the green screen video was made properly, the results can be very good, but if distance from backdrop to subject was too close, lighting was not optimal, wrinkles or shadows in the backdrop were present, there will be limited utility. Even the finest Chroma Key extraction software can’t handle some situations well.
